VT July 2015

Here is a little tutorial for making the card I made for the July Visiting Teaching message.

Cut band 9 ¼ x 2 – Punch if desired ( I used Martha Stewart Butterflies) – score at 2 3/8 from each side – fold and glue.

Cut back 4 ¼ x 5 ½ -- punch top if desired (I used a Martha Stewart punch)

Cut 2 sides 6 ¾ x 5 ½ -- score on long side at 2 1/8, 4 ¼, 6 3/8.  Fold opposite of each other so that the ¼ tab can glue to the back.

Cutting angle – Place score mark of the  ¼” tab on the cutting line of your paper cutter, then swivel the opposite end to the 1 ½” mark, cut, punch and trim

Adhere sides to the back

Place picture on the center "square"

I used a picture from LDS.org  Since I don't own that picture I can't supply it.  But you can easily download it for person and church use.

Making the side mats with message.

Type up the message as shown.  You can do this in Word on a single sheet.  Just remember they are going to be cut into a strip that is almost 2 inches wide.  I printed mine on two different colors of paper.  You can do it all one color. In the picture they are already cut.  The picture shows them out of order - sorry :)
For the left side:
First cut the message into a strip  1 7/8" wide.  Don't worry about top and bottom yet.
Now cut the bottom (see picture for approx. where)

For far left: starting at the bottom on the left side of the mat, measure up 2 7/8 and put a light mark with a pencil. Next, measure up 3 3/8 and mark.  Use a ruler to connect the dots and using a craft knife, cut the angle.

Here are the measurements for the left side mats.  Reverse measurements left and right for the right side of the card - because the angle goes the opposite way.

Far left (first message mat) 1 7/8 wide, left side of left mat 2 7/8, right side of left mat 3 3/8

Center 1 7/8 wide, left left side of center mat 3 5/8, right side of center mat 3 3/4

Right of center (there are 3 mats on the left side of the card.  This is far right one - on the left side)    1 7/8 wide, left side 3 3/4, right side 4 1/4

If you make a blank one for each of the 3 mats you can use it instead of measuring every time.  Be sure to flip the angle for the right side.

Then if desired, make blank ones to go on the back of the card sides.  You will need two small blank ones for the part of card that shows in the front.
